San Jose State rises in national AI and software skills ranking
San Jose State University has moved to No. 2 nationally for data driven programming and software engineering skills since 2021. The school credits AI courses, industry linked faculty and Silicon Valley hiring ties.
SJSU now ranks behind MIT in a national assessment of data driven programming and software engineering skills. The university offers a master's degree in artificial intelligence, courses in coding, machine learning and robotics, and is preparing an AI minor for College of Engineering students.
Faculty and graduates described a program closely tied to local tech employers and events. Companies including Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Qualcomm regularly hire SJSU graduates, and industry advisers help the engineering college review whether coursework matches current workplace needs.
