Two deaths on San Francisco streets renew safety concerns
A pedestrian was killed at 7th and Brannan in SoMa on Wednesday morning, and another person was found dead on Geneva Avenue in the Excelsior about an hour later. Police are investigating the second death's cause.
Police said the SoMa crash happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated, and alcohol or drugs did not appear to be involved. Walk SF counted the victim as the city's 10th pedestrian killed in traffic this year.
The Geneva Avenue death near Paris Street remains under investigation. Pedestrian advocates have long raised concerns about both corridors, citing speeding near freeway ramps around 7th Street and a wide five lane design on Geneva Avenue, which is on San Francisco's high injury network.
