Maria Su answered questions from House Education and Workforce Committee members during a three hour hearing on June 10. The discussion covered drag queen story events, preferred pronouns, transgender policies, abortion, white supremacy culture and whether schools are influencing students on social issues.

Su repeatedly framed SFUSD policy around legal compliance and inclusion of all students. Democratic members Mark Takano and Bobby Scott criticized the hearing's focus, arguing that student safety, harassment, neglect and civil rights complaints deserve more attention than national culture disputes.
