Type O blood supply in the Bay Area falls to a two year low
Vitalant says local hospitals are running short on type O blood, which doctors often use first in emergencies. The nonprofit is trying to fill thousands of donation appointments before the end of July.

Vitalant supplies hospitals across the Bay Area, and its type O inventory has dropped to the lowest level in two years. Summer travel is one reason donations have slowed while hospitals still need blood that can be used quickly in emergencies.
The nonprofit is asking donors to book appointments through the end of July, when thousands of local slots are still open. Bay Area residents who can donate may help hospitals rebuild a supply used in trauma care and other urgent cases.
